  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Jeff M -- Ever Wanted to Sound Like a Private Equity Expert in a 3 Hour Plane Read? : I will start this review by saying I work in IT consulting and knew nothing about private equity. However, being a regular reader of Kris’s books I knew there would be great wisdom in consuming this material. The quick guide is the perfect companion for someone that wants to learn about private equity in about a 2 or 3 hour read (a short plane ride). It is a very quick way to level up! The book starts with a definition of what private equity is with a focus on the strategy component. The book then moves on to illustrate said strategies using state-owned enterprises. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Chris -- Primer to developing an investment strategy : I always appreciate FC's clear thinking and logic, and this quick guide is another great example of their work. ( Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Terry -- A quick guide to private equity : As the title suggests, it's a quick guide to understanding how a P.E. identifies and adds hidden value in the targets. It introduces a 2 X 2 matrix summarizing two dimensions (performance, which is more about today; and health, which is more about tomorrow) as two criteria analyzing an organization / target. But practitioners must use this tool with care (just as any other tools) as too much information may be lost on the way, leading to oversimplification of realities. For example, there are so many factors influencing organization's health and the “scoring” may be subjective and inaccurate or, at best, just the "average" that practitioners need to find out which elements or where in the target to fix or strengthen. Anyway, this quick guide with SOEs as illustrating examples gives you the sound knowledge and logic to embark on the P.E. journey. ( Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from VL -- Quick read and useful for anyone! : While I do not plan on working in Private Equity, I do like to get a broad overview of critical insights about various industries. This book shows how private equity would work in State-Owned Enterprises. It teaches you how to quickly categorize the SOE and then what value you can bring if you wanted to work out a PE deal. For someone who does not plan on working in PE, this book gives you a good insight into the challenges faced by SOE so that you know where you can leverage your skills if you have to work with an SOE. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from BT -- Provides a concise overview, not a deep dive : It's a concise overview to help leaders understand the best approach to make informed investment decisions in private equity deals, and does a good job given it's intended purpose. It is a part of a complementary set. Make sure you purchase the right book for your needs. This quick guide introduces a framework to identify hidden value using the relative performance and health of an organization. It is intended for leaders to understand the problem. It's not an in-depth version designed for hands-on practitioners to do the work to solve the problem. For that, you need the the Private Equity Strategy Journal. In about two hours, the book offers an overview of private equity, how to build a private equity investment strategy, and how to convince others of the appeal of the investment idea, ( Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Juan Carlos V -- Value perspective : Where is the value? Are resources being used to create it or destroy it? What are entities really buying when acquiring other companies? This book is not only for people interested in Private Equity but also for anyone who wants additional ideas to approach how to manage resources properly. There are multiple examples covered, including State Owned Enterprises. ( Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from TJ -- Insightful - get it, you won't be disappointed. : This is an excellent quick start guide to the world of PE and explores the key questions one needs to think through to help you uncover value and mitigate liabilities. The author does a top job in helping the reader think beyond the common facets of PE deals to consider the critical but not always visible factors one needs to consider to do well in deal making opportunities.
